Samsung installs the first LED screen in the cinema

DATE: Jun, 12, 2019

Tencent Technology News According to foreign media reports, Samsung announced a big event in the film industry: it installed LED screens in cinemas for the first time.

As early as March of this year, the Korean electronics giant announced the news of LED movie screens for the first time, and exhibited the movie screen for the first time in a series of events at the Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This 10.3 meter long movie screen has been installed in the Lotte Movie World Building in Korea.

Cinemas have been trying to shift to digital projectors for years. 4K movies have also become a hot topic at the moment. Screens that utilize high dynamic range (HDR) are also rare, which can improve the contrast of chromaticity in the video, making white whiter and blacker blacker.

Samsung's LED movie screen not only supports 4k (4096*2160) resolution, but also supports HDR images. However, such a screen is much smaller than a typical movie screen because the usual movie screen is 13.5 meters to 21.6 meters long.

“With brighter and more realistic colors, more stereoscopic audio and higher picture quality, our LED movie screens can make viewers feel like they are in the film,” said HS Kim, president of Samsung Image Display Business. .

Today, the global film market has reached $40 billion. However, this market is increasingly being eroded by home entertainment systems and services such as giant TV screens, on-demand video and Dolby Atmos. For this market, the emergence of LED movie screens is an eye-catching innovation.

Samsung did not announce future installation plans and prices for this movie screen. However, the company made it clear that its technology will be applied to many occasions and situations, including corporate meetings, concerts and e-sports competitions.
